Route overview:
The 2016 route starts in Gwangju and follows a clockwise lap around the peninsula. The course has 3 distinct landscapes making it especially interesting for riders.
The first 500 kilometers are dominated by medium sized mountains. The roads are all in very nice condition, but they can be steep. A lot of the riders here use compact 50x34 chainring set-ups to tackle these beasts. Luckily, this section comes in the first half of the ride, so you should have relatively fresh legs.
After you make your way through the mountains, you will be treated to a long ride along Korea's East Sea coastline. The course will have you dot in and out of quaint fishing villages with a nice ocean breeze. Hopefully the ocean breeze will be at our backs.
The final section of this grand ride will have you turning back westward and into small farming towns. You will then go on a brief tour around a large bay framing Korea's South Sea. Finally you will head along one of Korea's many beautiful river valleys back towards the finish. This is a nice, mellow way to bring it all in and reflect on your awesome adventure in Korea.

Controls:
We often use CVS (convenience stores) for checkpoints. Korean convenience stores are very well equipped with snacks and things to drink. This gives the rider a chance to refuel while they get their brevet card stamped.
